Returning faulty item to Argos...wil lthey accept it?

Options
Hi, I bought a 'boys adventure kit' from Argos for my boy for christmas. Its a little bag with watch and various other bits and bobs. He has come to put on the watch and there is no metal pin that holds the strap ontop the watch face. I have the receipt but its over the 14days it says it needs to be returned by on the back of the receipt. It was bought at the beginning of december.

Will they take it back??

Thanks for reading.

  • Surely if it is missing something then it is not fit for purpose and therefore the 14 days return is not relevant ( as this would be return if you changed your mind).

Of course they might suggest that your son had lost the piece :o but that is another matter entirely. (Just explain it was a Christmas present)

My mum has returned endless items to Argos - mainly electrical stuff that had conked out before the guarantee was up and has never had a problem getting refunds.
  • As long as you take proof of purchase you'll be fine.

Alternatively, an old-fashioned watch shop would be able to repair that for you instantly for a couple of quid, or sell you a bar, if Argos seems too much trouble.

To slot it into place you'll just need a thin bladed pocket penknife.
  • They should do - 14 days is if you change your mind, but its definitely faulty so they should be able to exchange it for you
  • This just shows how many people just glance at the policy on the back of the reciept.
Nowhere does it say anything about 14 days. What I believe you're referring to is the 30 day money back guarantee. This policy applies to items that you wish to return because you have changed your mind or it was a duplicate gift etc. This policy is in addition to your statutory rights. If an item is faulty or has a piece missing then you are entitled to (depending how long you've had it) a repair/replacement/refund.

I explained that they were gifts and told them the store they were purchased in but no good

That is because you are not the purchaser and therefore have no contract with Argos, ask your auntie to return them, or ask her for the receipt, that should solve the problem.

If they where paid for on a card, it will only be refunded to that card.

  • With Woolies recently going bust, we are increasingly getting more customers bringing back items that have been bought from Woolies. So it is even more important to show proof of purchase.

I understand that Argos items have catalogue numbers on them, but that doesn't prove it was bought at Argos.

To refund an item they need to know where, when and how a purchase was made. If your auntie could give you that information, or even the reciept (if it was paid in cash or vouchers) you may be able to get a refund.
  • Argos changed the 14 day policy a while ago and now how a 30 day return policy http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/ReturnsAndRefunds.htm
  • Thanks everyone. I went into Argos today as I was passing and told them my dilema. They said they would refund no problem (I have receipt).

I have come home to look for the broken gift only to find my boy is now using the cheap bag the items came in to store his ds games and the contents are nowhere to be found!!lol.

Ill keep looking and then go get a new pin thingy like someone suggested.
    Thankyou.
