Hi,
Does anybody know is the registered keeper of the car the same as the legal owner. Just asking because:
The car registered in my wifes name is used by me daily and never by my wife where as the car registered to me is used by my wife during the week and sometimes by me at the weekend. The insurance on both vehicles shows me as the main driver of my wifes car and my wife as main driver of my car but as I'm just trying to fill in some forms for an Insolvency Practioner with the view to trying t arrange an IVA in my name only what car details should I enter and is it to late to swap names on the V5's.
Thanks.

No registered keeper and legal owner are not the same thing.
The person who paid for it is th person who owns it, unless they gave it as a gift.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Yes its the person who paid for it that is the owner, but in the circumstances you will probably need to prove it and explain why you are driving each others cars. Especially if the cheaper car is the one you own but you use the dearer car.
Also carefully check your car insurance, you might only have third party cover driving a car you don't own, or worse case, you are not covered at all.
Likewise, if your insurance is paid monthly and you are insuring her car your IP might want you to stop paying and only pay for your own insurance.

Hi Hitme, how is it going for you? I have similar problem, my Ip has said that I am the registered keeper of my vehicle which is owned by my company. It has to be me that is the registered keeper or else I could not insure it. I don't know if this will help you but It may give you some ideas.
Good Luck

Why are you looking to arrange an I.V.A. ?"YOU WANT THE CASH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CASH"0

Hi Louise, hope you've keeping well.IN_LIKE_EVERYONE_ELSE! wrote:Why are you looking to arrange an I.V.A. ?
Because my wife wants to keep the house and my work may not tolerate Bankruptcy and a DMP will take 18-20 years to pay off what I owe.
Either of the cars aren't worth that much, the one registered in my wifes name and insured by her but used my me and with me as the main driver is worth maybe £300. The other car registered in my name and insured by me but with my wife as the main driver is worth £2000 - £2500 ish
The cars got this way around about 6 years ago when we part exchanged my car for my wifes car and I started to use hers to travel to work. Insurance costs for the cars are virtually the same ( within £1 a month of each other). The only problem we have is getting quotes from other insurance companies is nearly impossible as the registered keeper needs to be the main driver in nearly all cases. In practice this hasn't proved too much of a problem as we get a very competitive quote (staff discount etc) and I haven't managed to beat it in the last 3 years.
Not sue whether to just list the value of the car I drive on the form and claim ignorance if questioned ( I do forget sometimes that they are registered the other way around).
Thanks for the replys.0
