when i had my son 6 years ago they said he had and extra chromosone and that he had possibly edwards syndrome which thankfully turned out not to be true as test result showed
although i am thankful ive always wondered what about extra chromosone what happened to it ? has he still got it?
he is quite a handful goes into terrible moods but thankfully he is lot calmer now but he is still a handfull
someone suggested autism ???
my sister also heard (she cant remeber where though)
that children with autism can have an extra chromosone is this true ???
if this is in wrong place i am sorry
also sorry about spelling mistakes

the test that showed the extra chromosome would have been a karyotype done on fluid obtained during an amniocentesis (needle through belly button)? If so then these are not accurate tests and a blood test after your son was born would have established that he doesn't have Edward's because the test was wrong.
I've never heard of autism being linked to extra chromosomes or bits of chromosomes but if you're concerned the best person to talk to is your GP.0 -
it was the blood test before i had him and it was @ 20 weeks cause i remeber going to my midwife appoitment and they said i shouldnt be there i should be at hospital for another scan and at hosp they took me into small room and told me they had bad news that it was worse than down syndrome etc that he would not survive the birth and i had the amniocentesis to confirm that what it was and it wasnt he was fine
nor did i dont think it sounds right at all
am not worried was just curious thats all lol
i love him for just being him although some days he does try me but usually i get big hug anyway after his spat and he says sorry which is a long way off the way he used to be
we are on waiting list for the dcfp (department of child and family phsycairty) but that can take over a year as waiting list is huge.
but wait we will lol his sister has adhd and dyslexia and he shows signs simillair to his sister
thanks again for reply though

my educational psychologist said that dyslexia can run in families, it's related to ADD and the like as well so i'd push to have him tested for that.
my niece is autistic and she's a great kid, you need to make sure she's not over stimulated though, even getting her eyes tested is a nightmare.0 -
with my daughter who has adhd, dyslexia is a separate condition entirely even though she probaly has it with adhd her school life up to p6 was badlt affected by it she loved school but struggled every day for 5 years sad really when all along i knew theres was a problem, was fed up gettitng told she was lazy and could do the work kept telling them she couldnt think they will listen to me now though.
her educational psychologist was great but sadly he left before xmas not seen new one yet but she does get play therapy every week and maybe the psychologist who is taking her there maybe new one hopefully

An extra chromosome is not actually that rare, there are a number of conditions that are associated with an extra chromosome, some of which have not yet been researched. If you do a google search there are some weird and wonderful articles, from the extra gender chromosome which gives an XXY male (which for trivia purposes Fox Mulder in the X files once claimed to have), to the more commonly seen Downs syndrome and such like.

if you are concerned about autism you could google the triad of impairments. My daughter has high functioning autism, which means she is very academic but has poor social skills.0

adhd is not due to a chromosone
it is due to a chemical imbalance of the brain and is a seperat medical condition.
i work for a support network online for adhd0 -
it wasnt my daughter with adhd that i meant had the extra chromosone i was replying to glaswejen above i already knew about chemical imbanance of the brain as there dad suffers from mental health issues and which due to chemical imbalance makes his life harder work as he struggles day to day he is on medication (seroxat)
my daughter has adhd/dyslexia my sons are on waiting lists to get seen by dcfp just to see if they are any problems
my youngest son does lack social interaction skills he can be ok one min and next fly off on one
thanks for replying any way
