...Nationwide has got too big and customer service has suffered. They also took over Portman BS who previously took over Lambeth BS. I think they will not be looking for more.......

Quick question...The west brom is offering a one year bond with a pretty good interest rate 4.65 I think compared to others...I'd invest less than 50k

If they go belly up will I get back just my capital invested or the capital including the interest due on the maturity date?

Any knowledgeable ones out there that know the answer?

The bond has now been withdrawn "due to unprecedented demand"

I wonder where that came from?

They are asking for application forms to be sent back immediately if you already have one - and will accept on a 1st come 1st served basis. This might take up to 15 working days (although previous experience with the West Brom means it could take longer).
  • Dealt with my application really quickly. So far so good.......

Not suprising really given that they were offering 4.65%

The email I received an hour ago. Seems to suggest any applications posted before Saturday 17th January are likely to be successful:
Important information regarding our 'E Bond 15'

You have received this email because you recently applied online for our 'E Bond 15' account.

If you have already returned your application form:
Thank you, due to high demand, please allow 15 working days for us to process your application.

If you have not yet sent us your completed application form:
Please ensure that you post your application to us no later than Saturday 17th January. Due to high demand, please allow 15 working days for us to process your application.

Please note that while we will make every effort to honour your application, we reserve the right to return them once our
limit for investments in this bond has been reached.

Due to unprecedented demand this product has now been withdrawn from our website.

    Yours Sincerely,
    West Bromwich Building Society

Will have funds ready to send away Saturday. The lady from West Brom BS said to me as long as application shows postal mark of being posted on Saturday I should be fine but she could not guarantee this.

If I fail the electronic electoral ID checks will I then be asked to send the documents from their list? I have no problem in doing this as long as the rate is honoured.

Finally, how quick are they likely to cash cheque?

Seems a good bond, no wonder it was popular.
  • Sounds like if i'm successful i'm going to lose around 20 days interest ..typical banks/building societies still got it all sewn up eh?

It took me 5 days to transfer my money out of my internet account into my current account with a different bank and now its going to take them 15 days to process the bond! ..

  • Anyone heard anything off them apart from the email? I posted off my cheque on the 13th and the funds are still sitting in my bank account waiting for them to take it!
