I would like to buy somethings online using my mastercard. The problem is the items are only shown as costing $10 not u.k. pounds. This is an Amercan site. if I were to order, how much would I actually pay and will the credit card company make a charge for converting the currency. I have an RBS and Tesco card which I can use. Thanks.

Mastercard will convert the money using the visa exchange rates (which are good), but your bank or credit card company will add a fee of usually 2-3%.

So 10$ is £6.60 but then you'll have to add approx 3% - so it'll come to approx £6.80.

ONLY USE IT AS A ROUGH GUIDE THOUGH!!! (some people have reported that the exchange rate fluctuates through the day, and doesn't always stick to the figure quoted on the website.)

I would use a Nationwide / Saga / Abey Zero card as they don't charge to convert. If the rate is, for example, 1.50 you will get a rate of 1.50

On the other side, my LTSB card charges nearly 3% plus £1 every time, so never gets used abroad...
