HBOS and my savings

It won't just be "in an envelope somewhere". There is a paper trail for everything that happens in a bank, so when they removed the envelope from the pay-in box, that fact, and what happened to the envelope, will have been recorded. They aren't just going to lose a cheque just because you aren't allowed to pay it in there.0

I'm sure you did the correct thing as the websaver is paying an appaling rate at present compared to most.0

... the websaver is paying an appaling rate at present compared to most.
True, but you need the variable one if you want to open a Fixed Rate Websaver -- and I was also glad of the variable a couple of months back to take advantage of the Web Saver Reward account
So it's fine if you don't keep too much in it. I just keep mine as a 'base' account, feeder or whatever.~cottager0 -
I originally opened the card version of the websaver account on-line, and had used the card to deposit cash a number of times over the counter (at a different branch).
The cheque had come from an A&L easysaver account which pays 0.25%.
So, I ended up closing two accounts.
Thanks for your advise.0
