Orange home phone package

I'll try keep it short but after a bit of advice.
Last February I applied for Orange broadband (£5 package as on orange mobile contract) I have now received a letter from orange to let me know that I am now connected to their home phone package which i did not request and am sure was not available at the time especially for £5 a month with broadband.
After spending over 20 minutes on the phone asking them to remove the phone package especially as its taken them nearly a year to set up I was informed that my broadband would be £14.99 (not impressed). I complained and have managed to get free broadband with limited downloads (which they are actually offering new customers so not really getting anything). Advised to set up original phone provider (BT). When we phoned BT they said we've been on orange since Nov last year and that as we've cancelled the orange phone we wouldn't be connected till 26th Jan, meaning we wont have a phone line other than the line rental we pay. So can't make calls out or recieve them.
I once again phoned to complain, told that they'd make a note on my file but no-one would get back to me with a letter or phonecall unless someone looked at my file (pointless ringing). I took the complaints address and want to write a letter to complain as I feel that I wasn't informed of any change to my phone line until now.
I know it sounds pointless, but I believe you don't get anything in this world unless you ask for it. I have a 15 month old baby and am 20 weeks pregnant so didn't really need the hassle. Am I in my rights to complain, has anyone else been in this position as I can't understand why it would take nearly a year to set up the home phone, especially if i haven't asked for it.
