Having trouble - BT for M&S CC

in Credit cards
I currently have an M&S mastercard, but this has now come to the end of the 0% deal in December. I owe £2900 at 15.9% APR.
I tried before Christmas to switch and thought that the deal Virgin are offering seemed good (14 months @ 0%) but was put off because it said you are only eligible if you won't be transferring from an MBNA owned card and I saw that some of the examples of this were mastercard.
With this in mind I applied for the Barclaycard and was accepted but only for £800 of which only £500 could be BT.
In the end I have stuck with M&S but not happy with the amount of interest I will have to pay when with a bit of effort I could switch to a lower rate.
Has anyone switched from an M&S card and if so, who to? Also, could anyone clarify if all mastercard CC's are MBNA owned or if I could apply for the Virgin CC? Finally, is there any reason why Barclays gave me such a low credit limit?
Sorry for the long post.

Thank you both for your answers.
I have just applied for my Virgin Credit card and have been accepted and given a credit limit large enough to swallow up my M&S card debt.
A bonus - the 0% interest period is currently 16 months on balance transfers and not 14 like I originally thought.
Thanks again guys - I feel much happier now.0 -
Mastercard is not owned by MBNA or the reverse.
Mastercard is a payment network and a rival to VISA, each card company makes a choice depending on a contract/payment scheme they can negotiate with either mastercard or visa.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep
