My wife received a phone call last week telling her that she is entiteled to free Disney books and she agreed for these to be posted to her. We received a set of 6 books via a courier (white arrow express) today and enclosed was an invoice for £8.98. The invoice stated that the books have been sent on a 7 day trial and that a balance of £8.98 is outstanding. It also states that the membership means that I am obliged to purchase 3 more shipments.
There is no contact phone number on the invoice. I have however found one on their website. I do not need the books and want to send them back, but I do not want to pay £5.00 postage to send them back. What should I do??

Write to them saying that you were told that the books were free, and that you had no intention of purchasing books from them. Ask them to send you a postage paid envelope/ postage paid packaging to return the books. Tell them you will store the books until Feb 14th (random date approx 2 weeks in the future) but if you have not heard from them by then you will dispose of the books to pay for storage costs. Send this letter recorded delivery, OR post it and send it by email if you can get an address.
This should sort them out. Good luck!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
I contacted them and said that the person on the phone said i could send the unwanted books back free (you get to keep the gifts) and that nothing was sent with my parcel. She immedietly posted out a post label to attach. I contacted them via email.

In the phone call they say 'you are entitled to free disney books and another few books on a trial basis which you can send back if you don't want.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -
Grolier are always ringing me, it's all a con.
Unfortuantely my sister subscribed about 5 years ago, and spent hundreds, tied into a contract had to purchase XXX amount of books per month!
Looking back now she was gutted at the amount the books had cost!.... Lovely books though all disney, needless to say her youngest has outgrown, and my daughters have inherited them all free of charge! :T
I would do exactly as jobbingmusician says, make it quite clear that you were misled by the promise of free books!

Sorry but how is this a con?
When you subscribe with them they clearly state how much the books are going to be and you have a good amount of time to back out of the subscription.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -

Somehow FREE to me doesn't mean £8.98?0 -
'six FREE books and my FREE Mickey Mouse Bookrack , along with two books on 7-days home trial'
6 books are free along with a book rack and the 2 extra books are the ones that are invoiced for on a 7 days trial, if you send them 2 back then you get to keep the rest.
Saying that, i don't think 2 books will cost £5 postage. To the OP'er. Are you sending everything back? You only have to send 2 books back.Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.0 -

Thanks for all your suggestions. I rang them this morning and complained. I was first told to post the books back but when I told her that I wasnt willing to pay the postage for this she said that she will arrange for their courier to collect this within the next 4 - 5 days. I will let you know how it all goes.
With regards to carrie483 comment, I am sending all the books back including the free gift. I have no use for it and dont want to deal with companies of this sort. Initially the woman on the phone told me that when my wife received the phone call from them last week she would have been told that she has to purchase the books but my wife has assured me that she was not told this at all.0 -
