Copy from one, it’s plagiarism; copy from two, it’s research.

Firstly ensure you have a decent codec pack installed as WMP will only play files if the correct codec is installed Microsoft article on codecs http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-GB/Help/3d0c5a49-8f61-45cc-8a7d-38c4695ba9291033.mspx
One of the best site for codecs is http://www.free-codecs.com/
Here you'll find all you need to know. I find installing the K-Lite codec pack solves all problems and will play back videos from my camFreebies you don't really need can be given to your local Hospice Charity shop so they can raise funds they desperately need. Pass on your good fortune :A0 -

Which cam have you got?
I bought a Canon FS100 camcorder recently and had a very similar problem. As this cam records directly onto SD card, I was transferring the footage by simply removing the SD card from the cam and putting it into my laptop. Doing this meant I had the .MOD on my computer, but I then faced similar problems to you.
I googled, and tried lots of things (like renaming, converting etc etc), but nothing seemed to work, until I did the following:
Instead of transferring the file as described above, I left the SD card in the camcorder, and connected the whole thing to my laptop (via USB), and then used the supplied (rubbish) software to transfer the footage over.... and hey presto.... when you transfer this way, it seems to save it on the computer as a .mpg file, which then works!
Let me know if that helps?0 -
