Thomas cook will take 1 euro or 2 euro coins, as for the rest what about selling it on ebay, list it for buyer to pay postage. Or depending on how well you know your local travel agent why not ask if 1 of them would be interested in buying your coins for their own personal trip.0

"It's an idea I'll consider but it's kind of inappropriate and not ideal, in my position".
To accumulate all these coins you must be either a cleaner or a baggage handler. Correct?0 -

Thanks, that's worth a shot. Just have to do the math

Nope, neither. I don't have the time to make such requests, unless I dedicated a break or two to it. The source of the majority of the coins isn't from the airport, not that that's relevant but since you asked.
Just to enhance on the former, carrying large quantities of various currencies around the airport on the off chance I might find a passenger who would take something, in exchange, really isn't appropriate or ideal. Thanks though.
Actually, I also have an even larger amount of sterling coinage, obviously no problem there but just incase, am I going to have problems cashing this in say at, the bank? I mean other than the look of horror as they see me approaching with several bags of coins.0 -
Sterling coinage: go to your own bank branch to avoid problems
Foreign coinage: Some Thomas Cook branches for 1 & 2 Euro coins only. The remainder you will have to hang on to, sell on ebay or give to charity.
I had heard that 'certain' Euro coinage is identical in size and weight to English coinage and allegedly works in vending machines and car park ticket machines etc <coughs>. Having not tried this (or even compared coins) I can't remember which coin...1 Euro or 2 Euro.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Very interesting, many thanks for that. I actually have one of those coins, so I might give it a try

I really think you will have a problem exchanging anything except the euro coins here.If you did the exchang rate would likely not be worth it.
make someone happy and give it to one of the big airlines to put in there charity or ask them what they do with theres that they collect.0 -
Loads of foreign note and coin sales on e-bay. The prices poeple are paying are more expensive than the high street exchange places, I don't know why. I was considering putting my left over holiday money on ebay, does anyone know of any countries which restrict the amount of their currency you can take in?0

Regarding the countries that restrict the amount you can take in i wouldnt have thought you would have that much left to sell, but if you have sell it in several lots. The problem you may have is if you have any currencies which you're not allowed to bring home with you ie indian rupees, tunisian dirhams etc, these are illegal for you to have outside their own countries. But i suppose you can buy anything on ebay lol.
If you let me know what you have i'll find out for you which you can sell and whats the limit.0
