Hi,
I bought my Son an xbox 360 for xmas and a few times it has not read the discs and ruined fifa 09 with a big scratch right round the disc.
My question is do you think its faulty or just a few one offs? Also if I did have to return it, who would I return it to, is it Gamestation or Microsoft?
Thanks in advance,
Michelle.

has he been moving the xbox360 when the console has been switched on??? the slightest movement while the disc is spinning will cause the scratch you describe
In which case they won't do anythingIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Write /email the game distributor and ask for a free replacement as its in the T&C, like you cannot copy it but you do have rights to be able to use it as you have brought a licence to use the game, then make a backup of the new disc and use that.0

Dee.....I was just going to post back and ask the same thing (re, back up)0

its not worth copying/backing up 360 games as you need custom firmware to play them afaik, which, if you play on xbox live could get you and the console permanently banned from XBL0

the amount of people who return scratched discs to our shop and say 'I didn't move the console, honest' is amazing. then they say the xbox is faulty so we should replace the game for them ...
I can't believe that the xbox is able to ruin discs like this ... bit scary innit !0 -
GamingGuy, Ok thanks for that, He'd be lost without XBL
Musicboy, Yeah he said he moved it whilst game was in, so think he'll know not to do that again! I've googled it and it was first reported back in 2006, you would have thought MS would have come up with a solution by now?0 -
Never Ever move an xbox with a disc inside as it'll only end in tears as sadly you have found out.Retailers aren't obliged to replace the disc, some may at their discretion.
All is not lost as the disc can be repaired and its not that expensive.I've had my sons Fifa 2009 disc repaired after he did the same thing and it cost all in £3.50 at Scratch Doctor. You request a mailer bag from their website, they send you one and you send back (freepost) with payment and disc.If disc is repairable they will repair it and send it back by first class royal mail, normally within 48hours of receiving. If it isn't then they return the disc with your payment, what have you got to lose.http://www.scratchdoctor.co.uk/index.html

Most HMV stores have a disc repair facility - can't remember the price but it's cheaper than £3.50 and it's instant! However it won't get rid of all these kind of scratches as they're pretty deep in my experience, but it should make the game playable again.0
