Service Cost - Local Garage

Just wondered what people normally pay for a service

It would depend on the car and what was going to be done in the service. People are often fooled by what is actually done in a service.

I do most servicing myself anyway

What? you mean a simple oil and filter change? Do it myself. That way i know its been done and whats been used i.e quality products.
  • On my Capri, I can do a major service myself for under £40. On my Mondeo TDCi, the main dealer charges £175 for a major service.

On my wifes FTO we had quotes from local garages from £200 to £380.

    ONE THING TO REMEMEBER

Always check what they include in a service. Different garages have different ideas. Don't assume just because it's more expensive that they do more.

What about it? Just fill it in yourself and keep the receipts ofr the parts. Thats what i do FWIW.
A stamp in a book is not proof of work done or good quality service.

The old oil? i put it in an old container and when i am next going to the local recycling centre, i take it there where there is a waste oil facility. At least i know that quality oil is used and not just bulk stuff from a big barrel.
  • Just booked my car in for a service at the main dealer as I want a full service and cam belt change. Once they quoted the price i then asked if a discount was available and they reduced the cost by £169! My usual small independent garage wanted to charge more than this and I get the reassurance that the important cam belt change is done to a high standard using genuine parts.
