Brake light problem

Hi guys

Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on this problem!

I have a Citroen C4, 3 door version. Last week, I noticed that the middle brake light wasn't coming on when I broke, however it is coming on when I put the rear window demister on.

I spoke to my local Citroen dealer who said they had never heard of the problem.

Any ideas?

I second the earth fault answer.

Some years ago I had a Peugeot 309 from new. After only a couple of weeks I started the car one morning and everytime I tried to operate one thing, something else operated instead. I took it to the Peugeot garage and they quickly fixed it. Loose earth point on car. Seems that because the earth has gone, those pesky electrons will find an earth by travelling through another electrical item that has an earth.

I guess that would make sense, if the earth wire for the brake light is loose, when i turn the rear window dimmister on, its getting the power through that and turning on......now just how to sort it!
  • Thirded on the earthing fault.... a decent workshop manual would show you where the earthing points are on the car (Think there are 10 on mine) Tighten them up and give them a clean... might solve the problem.

sorry, a workshop manual? would that be a haynes manual?

I've just had a play around, the light comes on when the boot is shut, but if you open the boot, and raise it slightly it turns off.

Depends on the age of the car as to whether a Haynes manual is available. Ebay is a good place to look for a bargain on manuals.

its an 05 plate, just had a quick look on ebay, not on there, nor on the hayes website so guessing they dont do them for c4's!!

Unfortuantly my car knowledge is very poor, so might end up going to a garage to see if they could sort it out!

I would try to find a vehicle electrical specialist, most ordinary garages are not really that good with electrics.
