I have been scouring the posts for info on dvd recorders and the more I read and look, the more confused I'm getting so please heelp!!
I have a VCR at present and have never owned a DVD player or recorder. My kids have dvds thay want to watch and much to my reluctance, I think it's time to bring myself up to date and invest in a dvd recorder. I do have a budget though of 100 pounds maxi.
I want to be able to do all that I can with my VCR ie record, be able to use timer(preferably videoplus), re-record on the same disc, easy to use, be able to record terrestrial while watching freeview etc
Also to keep my kids happy and not have to upgrade again too soon, it has to play dvds recorded from the computer, Cds burned on computer, be multiregion etc.
Would I be better getting a VCR and DVD player?
How about the two DVD recorders below? Don't know what Divx is by the way.

Bearing in mind I have an ancient TV with two scarts and an ariel and no other connections and a freeview box.

think you would be better off with a combie in your cicumstances or you could go the whole hog and transfer the tapes to dvd there are machines on the market that will do this also bear in mind that a dvd recorder will only record the channel you are tuned to unless you get one with a hard disc or two tuners which are now becoming poular. You may well be better off as you are and just purchase a cheap dvd player just to play the stuff for the kids etc these can be found for less than £30 now
