Replacing a light switch

Hi

I need to replace a light switch in my loft thats no longer working (wont switch off), the wiring in my victorian house is the old black and red cables but have been checked over and are in good condition.
I've taken out the old switch but Im now a bit confused where what cable goes on the new switch !!! the old switch had a black and red going in and a black and red going out to the light switch.
The new switch has 3 connections, 2 at the bottom 1 way & 2 way and one at the top COM ! can anyone tell me what cable goes into what connector.
I really need to get this sorted today but if not i can ask a sparky at work tomorrow

Cheers, Jason

Was the red and black wires going into the same connector?
On your new switch you would normally have live (red coming in) into the common and live (red going to the light) in 1 way; but I am not sure with your connections, maybe you could check another switch in the house to see how it is connected?
  • Where the black wires together? One red is normally in common, the other red will be in L1 and the blacks will be together.

    Ben.
  • Now sorted , Many thanks
