I didn't use any weed matting stuff when I built mine, just carpet off freecycle, and, when we ran out of that, wet cardboard. We've only had one weed come up (a ready-blanched dandelion, which I ate!) through the ground.

Thanks for that SC, may well be a good alternative. Wicks prices actually don't seem to bad, will price up the wood etc first and decide what option to go for, hubbies getting alot of extra jobs at the mo (plenty of people with new laptops/pc's over crimbo) so will buy the stuff we need bit by bit as jobs come in and try to leave the greenhouse fund untouched.
1st job is drainage.

PS hubby is an IT technician so works full time in the day, and does extra jobs as self employed in evenings and weekend
