Dental Care in the UK - Some guidance needed...

Hello,

I have been trawling the Internet and this forum and am still unsure of what I should de regarding my dental care.

I am in my late 20s and my teeth are in good condition except for two of them. In early 2008 I had root canal treatment through a private clinic. It cost a lot. I have had check ups with a private clinic.

Twelve months on, I suspect they need some more work. I am unsure whether to pay for dental insurance or just go NHS.

I am trying to compare the potential costs (worse case scenario):

- NHS
- Dental cover
- Heath cover with a dental cover component

I know a policy will involve a waiting period. I am unsure the quality of NHS dental care in the UK? Even with a policy, will the net cost be same/different to NHS...

Any guidance will be appreciated. I have read the dental guidance page however would like to hear some personal opinions.

Thanks!

NHS dentists are a rare commodity.I suggest go for dental insurance.I pay £11 a month through den plan covers me for some treatment and visits to the dentists twice a year.

See a dentist as soon as you can.If you leave it to long it might cost you a lot more than money.I think the NHS dental care is good if you can find any.
Tooth smith regularly posts here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=81 and he is quite helpful. You may wish to read the posts there I think there might be something similar to your enquiry.
  • Thanks for the reply.

Probably worth adding - I live in Central London and know of one or two local dentists taking new patients. So access to a NHS dentist is (hopefully) not going to be an issue.
