I have only just started my own job search but the combination of books and my advisor were superb. Just knowing a basic layout was useful. i copied a sentence that was relevant to my work from one of the books and my advisor was very impressed, she laughed when i told her i had nicked it. It's quite nervewracking writing letters and filling in forms and you have to get them to stand out from the crowd.

I would suggest u pick some books up from the library and cherrypick the good stuff. I even found a perfect description of my own previous job to use how lucky was that!!
