Aww, Martin - was just thinking last Thursday that you suited it slightly longer. You've not gone back to a No 1 have you?

Guess I can watch you this Thursday to see :D
  • I'm more concerned about Martin in his Smart Car.

Did he see the piece on one of the TV motoring shows (ITV1's ?) when they crashed a Smart car at motorway speed into an immovable object ?

The car protected the dummy driver (no implications intended) from really serious physical damage, but the 40+G deceleration would have scrambled the brain in the perfectly preserved head. The item didn't actually give the G figure, but you can work it out from the quoted stopping distance.

When I left school, I went to work in a hairdresser's.
My husband (then boyfriend), bought me my first pair of scissors.
He has never paid for a haircut since and that was in 1972!
Now that IS value for money................and I'm still using the same pair of scissors!

  • Mr Toppers unofficial rules (as I observed yesterday when I went for a haircut in Tottenham Court Road):
Don't talk to the barber - he's on commission so if you talk, it slows him down
Don't waste time being called forward - get on the pedestal as soon as the last bloke has finished his cut
Don't ask what music is playing - see point above about commission
Don't ask for one of those fancy haircuts you get in Toni and Guys - c'mon you're only getting a £6 haircut, if you want better, go somewhere else
Don't ask for an opinion about what your hair should be - what you ask for is what you get. If you don't have an opinion, it all comes off
Don't ask the barber to wash the old hair off the clipper guards before he uses them - a slap in the face often offends

Do make an effort to join the lengthy queue - because most people before you will leave as they've gotten impatient waiting and want to go outside to buy computer parts
Do give the barber a tip - their fashion isn't that great so complement them on their shoes
Do look around at all the nice notices on the wall purporting quality and customer retention - they'll make you feel at ease knowing you're getting a cut price haircut having never paid £6 before!

I cut my childrens hair and DP's and then I go to the hairdressers myself but only a few times a year, honest :)
If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun:cool:

Id love to get mine cut cheap but its horrible hair and only looks good when cut by a good hairdresser. I used to go to a walk in place for years and it always looked awful but now I indulge myself every 7 weeks. My OH cuts his own and DS is growing his long.

I went for a haircut sat down in the chair and said to the barber I just want a little of the top. He said do you want it cut around the back ? I said if its alright with you I would rather stay in the shop.
