My Brave, Brave Boy

Hippocampus wrote: »"I'll lend you for a little while,
A child of mine," God said.
For you to love then, while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
Or twenty-two or -three,
But will you, ‘til I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He will bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his way be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below,
I want this child to learn.
I looked this wide world over,
In search of teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take
This lent child back again."
I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord, thy will be done."
For all the joys thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter them with tenderness,
We'll love them while we may.
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.

Wow this is beautiful, I've got tears running down my face whilst at work, I can't imagine how your feeling. It's a year today since I lost my Dad and it does get easier but you'll never forget. He'll be up there watching you and his Dad and his sister, free from pain and in peace x x x0 -

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

i am a mother of two young children and i just could not (and do not want to) imagine losing either one of them.
I hope you can take comfort knowing that your precious little boy will no longer be in any pain and that he knew his mummy was with him when he finally fell asleep.
