Larger streetmap.co.uk maps

Options
Maps on streetmap.co.uk are normally displayed on a 3 x 3 grid, however there's a simple way to display them on a 5 x 5 grid and therefore cover a larger area.

For example, a search for Charing Cross station, results in the URL http://streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=530052&Y=180372&A=Y&Z=1 and the 500m scale map is on a 3 x 3 grid.

To display the same scale on a 5 x 5 grid, edit the URL in the browser address and add 1 to the Z= value.

In this example: http://streetmap.co.uk/streetmap.dll?G2M?X=530052&Y=180372&A=Y&Z=2 displays the location on a 5 x 5 map.

It doesn't matter if the URL has other parameters; only the Z= parameter is important. This method works for all scales: 500m (street names), 1km (OS), 10km (road atlas) and 100km. The only slight problem is that the 'Printer Friendly Map' link is missing. To get round this, click that link first when the 3 x 3 map is displayed and then edit the URL as described above.

Note that the z parameter value in the URL determines both the scale and size of the map:

z= Scale Size
1 500m 3 x 3
2 500m 5 x 5
3 1km 3 x 3
4 1km 5 x 5
5 10km 3 x 3
6 10km 5 x 5
9 100km 3 x 3
10 100km 5 x 5
