You haven't said what the actual problem is... Inability to connect to the internet?
Re the Belkin router, is it a Cable/DSL router? Something like this? That's the type that works with NTL cable, as opposed to the ADSL modem type like this which works with BT telephone connection.
Also, you mention connecting cables - is your computer connected by Ethernet cable to the router or are you trying to connect it wirelessly? Also, if it's not obvious, you should be using the Cable/DSL router instead of the NTL router.
Posting a bit more info, including your OS (Windows XP, 98, etc.) will help us to fix your problem.0 -
Can you get an internet browser to connect to the Belkin configuration screen?
My Belkin router, you type 192.168.2.1 into internet explorer and it takes me through to the Belkin configuration screen.
Or is the problem lack of broadband connection?Happy chappy0 -

You still haven't really explained what your problem is.
Have you done as tomstickland suggested and connected to the router from your PC using IE to configure the router?
You will have to provide more information regarding what you have done and what doesn't work to progress with your problem.

Thanks for clearing up the wired question. Yes, the Belkin device replaces the NTL device.Katrina-trying_to_save!?! wrote:i use windows xp and yes the ethernet cable is connected so i aasume its wired!!! if i set up the belkin router for my destop and bin the ntl modem will that work?? and yess that is the belkin router ive bought???
What is the actual problem though? What are you trying to do?
Open a command prompt (Start - Run... - type in cmd - OK) and enter:
ipconfig/all

After further research, it looks like I was wrong about not needing the NTL modem. You DO need the NTL modem and the Belkin router. Sorry about that.Katrina-trying_to_save!?! wrote:well the problem is...... ive been using the ntl modem so thats clearly why its not working.
This thread may help you.
Perhaps someone with more experience of NTL broadband could reply.

Katrina, I'm not a techie but two things to note: 1) DON'T disable your firewall - it may need to be configured some way to allow you to connect but you shouldn't disable it unless you want some very nasty people to get access to your computer when you connect to the internet. 2) Does your router have a built-in modem (as most do) or is it just a router? Is it DSL (which you need for NTL system) or ADSL (which only works with a normal BT phone line).0
