My mum use to do a lot of parties in the 70's and I always remember there being a bowl of rice with peas and sweetcorn in it, a pint glass with celery sticks and a pint glass with bread sticks and the obliguratoy pickled onions (homemade).

LOL, thanks for the memories ;) . And I love your username too!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

If its 70s theme you must have cheese and pinapple on sticks stuck into a foil covered potato like a hedgehog:D

I had that at our Boxing day tea, and another with silverskin onions and cheese :D

As for other things for the OP... sausage rolls always featured quite heavily at parties in our house, and definitely celery too!
  • Just trying to think back now:- Bowls of crisps, vol au vents with campbells condensed soup in them, pizza fingers, sos rolls, cheesy hedgehogs, ham (boiled), gherkins, branston, cheese, quiche, drum sticks, pork pie with a long egg in it.
I not easy as in those days we were just getting into eating "foreign muck" and party food was very much like your old style Sunday high tea? Don't forget that evil pink wine - What was it called?? la pis'd-og??? ;)

Prawn cocktail is very 70's but do it with a jamie twist - serve a dollop of prawns in cocktail sauce on a little jem lettuce leaf. Easy to pick up and eat in a mouthfull and prawns are half price in sainsburys
