There will be about 30 people chez moi this weekend, and I'm doing a 70's style house party, (just thing Margot from the Good life...) too much going out over xmas i thought why not stay at home. On the menu so far is chicken kebabs, chopska salad (bulgarian recipe, with feta cheese), olives, pesto swirl bread, nuts, coleslaw, then a couple of gateaux (afraid they are shop bought!!! but flippin cheap!) and a battenberg because thats oh's fave;) A few bottles of reduced price wine from tesco, and some half price bubbly i got from tesco b4 xmas.
Have I missed anything? There arent any veggies coming btw.

The easiest way to check the quantities is to imagine a dollop or portion of each item togther on the plates that you will be using, does it look generous? I think that you might need another meaty choice....0

I'd get a few french stick loaves and a tub of buttery spread, a block of (or selection of) cheese and a jar of pickled onions and/or sandwich pickle.
Trouble-free to present, costs a couple of quid, and will make the table look well stocked, plus fill people up if the party carries on after the main food has gone!
(Edit: Great idea though. I think it's high time we had a return of home entertaining)I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Maybe get a few extra things in, that you would be able to use after the event, and keep it handy in case you are running low on food, that way you can bring the extra out if you need it, use it after if you dont!!!

If its 70s theme you must have cheese and pinapple on sticks stuck into a foil covered potato like a hedgehog:D and a bottle of blue nun centre table!0 -
My mum use to do a lot of parties in the 70's and I always remember there being a bowl of rice with peas and sweetcorn in it, a pint glass with celery sticks and a pint glass with bread sticks and the obliguratoy pickled onions (homemade).0

Ooh.. I remember the pint glass with the celery sticks in, and the pickled onions :rotfl:
I would say vol au vents (sp?) as well, also a cheeseboard with stilton, cheddar, camembert and edam - that was all the rage in my house anyway!!!!!Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
The old french stick with garlic butter is cheap as chips and will fill anyone. 70's for me is prawn cocktail and black forest gateaux washed down with asti or blue nun!0

little sausages on sticks were a real treat for us when we had a party, and a pack of trifle, very vivid coloured I remember.
I am having a houseparty at the weekend for my 50th, just open house all day, those earliest get best fed!Carolbee0 -
Can you still buy Babycham? We had some babycham glasses to drink them out of (though of course I was a babby and could only drink milk
Don't forget snowballs and punch bowls
Prawn cocktail, steak diane and sausage rolls.
Are you getting dressed up - I hope you are!! How exciting - it's a "special" birthday for me this year - and I think you've given me an idea - watch this space............Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!!
