Dental Hygienist Procedures - help!

  • Good to see everyone's comments on this thread - I'm off to the dentist soon and I'll just have to bite the bullet (as it were) over the hygienist - if it's got to be done, it's got to be done. Just need a stiff gin when I get home.

TBH I'm the worlds most dental averse person but I've never found hygienist visits that bad.

I can't find a 9500! I must have dreamed it (How sad is that?!) It could be that it's one they are about to release.

If you have a Sonicare already, you won't gain anything by buying another ultrasonic brush.

THIS is the best oscillating/pulsating one I could find - JL may not be the best place to get it though. Osc/pulse are the ones the science says are best.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I adore my dentist - he's just like my grandad - even looks like hime. It';s the most child freindly place ever and he has toys everywhere.

Just had a really bad experience with an emergency dentist in London - had an abscessed wisdom topoth so he filled me with anaesthetic and sent me off to wait for about an hour - by which time it had nealry worn off and then tried to pull it out - my screams put off other people in the waiting room so he had to give me more anaesthetic - then my whole face swelled up and I had to go into hoispital to get pumped full of antibiotics!! This was about 20 years ago and I had to pay £50 up front in cash!!

I've hated going ever since but I still do it every 6 months - I never want to go through that again - hence I went to hospital last year to have one tken out under a general anaesthetic - even then I was scared I'd wake up, but them not know it - lol.

I don't mind going to the hygienist, it just worries me when I think my crown's going to pop off when they're scraping round it...rather visit the dentist than the hairdresser any day of the week.

That's really odd. I love going to the hairdressers, I see that as pampering.

It's an odd area this. When I had some rust teased out of my eye by a doctor a few years ago I realised what a good thing having a medical profession is. Despite being a medical wuss, I do think that modern denistry is pain free. It really bugs me though that when I go to the dentist then I concentrate 100% of my attention on a few nerves. I'm sure they could tickle me with a tickling stick and I'd thought it'd hurt.
