HSBC / MCS Credit Card Problem

Hi All

Grateful for any advice, my OH had problems many years ago and had an HSBC credit card which was referred onto Metropolitan Collection Services (MCS) to collect the debt, it appears MCS may be part of HSBC in some way, but she was told that the debt was with MCS. This was in 2005 and she has been paying the debt monthly since and has proof of this.

However, today she has had a letter from HSBC advising that the debt for the credit card has been passed onto a company called Hillesden Securities, the HSBC letter has inappropriate spelling, no reference number and no contact details, we have only deducted it relates to the card being paid via MCS through deduction and repeated calls to HSBC.

My question is, can HSBC pass this debt onto somebody if it is with MCS, what would be the best thing to do as this seems almost fraudulent, my other half has been told to call HSBC back on monday but this seems an awful state of affairs and has really scared her.

Grateful for any advice. Cheers
