Bank got me again

they charged me because a £5 direct debit bounced, then they asked for again and it bounced again. Then they had the nerve to charge me for an unauthorized overdraft. I didn't ask for it I don't have a credit card, debit card or cheque book, so it must have been the d d. So I got £120 for DLA and only got £30 in my bank to live on. I don't know how they expect me to live. Or do they/ I can't find the £10 to ask for a record to I can ask for my bank charges to be seen to.
Time is more valuable than money. You can get more money but you can't get more time

How about making sure you've got enough in your account to meet direct debits as they fall due? Or arrange a small overdraft facility? Then you won't incur these charges.0

Cancel the DD and pay it by SO (or cheque). That way you take back a bit of control if you can't guarantee to have adequate funds on the DD due date. Pointless letting it bounce and incurring charges? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

Banks do that sort of thing. It's in the terms and conditions of the account that you need to make sure you have enough funds in to cover direct debits and stuff. If you don't, they screw you.countrymusicfan wrote: »they charged me because a £5 direct debit bounced,
They do that to.then they asked for again and it bounced again. Then they had the nerve to charge me for an unauthorized overdraft. I didn't ask for it
Sounds like you've got this sussed.I don't have a credit card, debit card or cheque book, so it must have been the d d.
Do you think they have the slightest interest? Really? So I got £120 for DLA and only got £30 in my bank to live on. I don't know how they expect me to live.
My apologies for being somewhat blunt. You have internet access, so can presumably keep on top of your finances online. Even if you can't, get closer to what's coming in and going out and make sure you don't get charged again. It's your responsibility to manage your money. If there's a risk of being charged, consider not paying by direct debit.Or do they/ I can't find the £10 to ask for a record to I can ask for my bank charges to be seen to.
By the way, you might get more help posting it on the current account forum.0 -
In future:
a) Only arrange direct debits you can afford
b) Know when they are coming up
c) Have enough money in the account
d) Know what will happen if you don't have the cash in to covert them
However, on this occasion, assuming it is the first time it happened, you should almost certainly be able to get the bank charges refunded. Arrange a meeting with your bank manager about this and I can practically guarantee the fees will be refunded.
Of course if you make a habit of this then I have no sympathy. But anyone can make the occasional mistake
