Advice needed re - renewal

First post on here so apologies if I get this wrong!
Our House and buildings insurance is due for renewal in Feb and we are covered for legal expenses with the current provider.
In Sept 2008 we were involved in an RTA and the police are still investigating (can't go into more details on here) and the outcome not expected anytime soon. As OH motor ins policy did not have legal cover we have informed the house ins provider that we may need their help if a claim is made against us.
What we are wondering is if we move to another provider for buildings and content cover would we still be able to go through old provider for the legal expenses or will they say no longer covered?
Hope this makes sense.

Hi there
You have to make a claim with the people you were insured with at the time the event happened; ie, your current legal expenses insurers.
Having said that, there are all sorts of conditions on legal expenses cover, so you should phone them NOW and ask for a claim form. You can decide later on to retract the claim, but one of the conditions of insurance is that you need to tell your insurer about the claim "promptly".In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
If you are worried then stay with the same insurance company.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Thanks to both of you.
Insurers were contacted within a week of the accident and are aware of ongoing claim and OH was keen to stay with current provider rather than rocking the boat but wanted to seek other's advice. Haven't had renewal quote as yet.0
