wonderfullife, off topic slightly but here goes....

I have toyed with the idea myself. I see the benefits of cost very clearly but i'm afraid Sky+ does 2 things very well which stops me from being able to change.

    1) Includes Sky one, two, three etc which I cant get on freeview, and the only way to get these channels without sky is through Telewest/NTL which is not available in my area, and even if it were....
    2) Sky+ present PVR in a very "no-nonsense" way. I've no doubt I personally would have no problems with Media Centre, GB-PVR etc which could serve as a Sky+ replacement, but I am virtually certain that my girlfriend would struggle with it no end. While it's a simple as pressing a button on your remote I think Sky still have my money.

    Hi
I have the topfield 5800, twin tuner, 160gb hd, record up to 3 channels whilst watching another, pause live tv , save to folders, updateable, freeview, etc.
Whilst I agree I can't get SkyOne,2,3, I can get the channels that I want ie. e4, e4+ and cbeebies (the kids like that one). No update to aerial, and excellent picture quality.
As for watching, recording etc, all I do is press a button, (to watch, schedule and record, its as easy as that, but I believe for me I get all the benefits and no cost.
But each to their own, all I know it saved me £25 a month.

I've just sent a stinking email to Sky.

We have had 2 Sky+ boxes since May on the full channel package (and paying full price). Despite numerous phone calls, service calls and general incompetence we have never had all of the equipment working correctly at the same time. Now both systems have failed (won't record).

Telephoning them gets you nowhere - they never ring back!

I'm cancelling it all and demanding a refund and termination of contract.

Waiting for a response now

Actually I have to admit that the topfield nearly had me tempted on usability, but I need my Sky 1,2,3. (well, need, bit of a strong word)

As long as all the gubbins is in the same box I think it will work well, but when you have a PVR hooked to your Telewest box changing the channel by an infrared thingy I can see problems ahead.

If you check the forums on the Topfield, maybe somebody will be able to help you out, with your Telewest box

How can a twin tuner record 3 channels and play one at same time? The humax 9200 I have will play one and record two depending on the channels

LOL no worries. I hera Toppy is good but higher priced that the Humax though.
  • Hi
I paid £249.00 for mine, which I thought was very reasonable, and I must say its the best 249 quid I 've spent in a long time.

Thats a good price I seen ita round £300 mark. I got my Humax 9200 for just under £200
  • Hi
I did look at the Humax, but I think the toppy came out top because it also has a slot for the card, (correct me if I'm wrong), if I ever want to subscribe to other supplier at a later date, thats if we ever get another alternative to Sky, whom I would never go back to.
