asda home delivery-sent meat past use by date

What is going on at Asda?

I like their deliveries as the majority is much easier then doing to the store, however i had one this week with a £6 joint of pork with a use by date of the day before!
Last week the 3 loaves of bread had the next days date (usually you get 3 days at least with the branded bread)
Week before soggy brown lettuce.

Maybe its my local store (castlepoint Bournemouth) ? Anyone else finding problems with them?

I use free delivery codes so don't feel right about complaining but got refund for meat.

If you don't complain, how can they improve?
That gum you like is coming back in style.

They are breaking the law by supplying meat past it's sell by date, so you really should complain.

  • I would definately complain, that is completely unacceptable. As penrhyn says how can they improve?

My local Asda are awful for having lots of stuff close to the sell by date, I try not shop in there if I can help it as I shouldn't have to go hunting at the back of the shelf for everything I want to buy!:(
  • And if you do complain in the right way (don't rant), you may get a little something for your trouble. ;)

Complain! But as PP said do it in the right way.

Personally this is why I don't shop for food on the net - that & I often see things I want to try etc.

    Good Luck

    hello everyone
first time posting on this forum and noticed this post about asda.i had a problem some years ago where i purchased some packet rice from asda. we had travelled 40 miles to visit the store as we were doing a large month shop. Anyway on unpacking the shopping when we got home something made me check the dates on the rice and they were beyond there use by dates. Going back to the store was not an option due to the distance so i emailed their head office address explaining how cross i was and the fact that i would have been feeding my then young children this food.I included the batch details of the products and the store details. Well, will stop babbling now, the outcome was that Asda Head Office sent an apology with usual blurb that this happens on rare!! occassions but along with this letter came £25.00 in asda Vouchers. so was well worth emailing head office and not just going back to the store. I now dont bother going back to stores to complain because i feel you have more notice taken by contacting head offices.

  • Right, thanks, you have inspired me, will get in touch with them. The meat shouldn't of been on the shelves, but whoever picked the order should of been shopping for me as they would themselves, says alot for their effort!

In my local store the "home shoppers" often get in my way. so I've watched a few - they invariably just pull stuff off the front of the shelves. I always pull from the back, I guess most MSErs do.

In lots of supermarkets, the pickers are often teenagers doing part time jobs. I imagine the vast majority have never done a weekly shop in their lives.

last week I bought a piece of stilton cheese from the Xmas range, reduced to £2.50. The lady was reducing them as I went to the cheese selection.
I have bad eyesight and couldn't see an expiry date, so asked her to look for me which she did and said 'oh its fine'.
When I unpacked at home and DH was putting the fridge food away he noticed the cheese was 2 days after its 'use by' date and the underside of the cheese (which couldn't be seen in the Xmas package box), was slimy.
I rang head office and explained the above and they asked me to take it back to the store.
As its half hour and £1 each way on the bus, I said it was too cold and not my fault, so I didn't want to go back.
The guy took my details and made a big deal of saying they would send me a 'goodwill' gesture.
    I received a gift card of .............................. £4.50!
I thought it was a little mean because all they were really giving me was my bus fare saving me going back.
It was their fault so I expected at least a gift card with a little more on it.
    Might call back on Monday
