D.L.A.forms need HELP
D.L.A. again help for a Epiletic PLEASE...
Hello please help in anyway you can.
Our forms have come through again and so worried about filling them out as last time We had to go to a tribunal because the DWP said I wan't having enough fits.........Trying to get better...... around 8-12 fits a month, and phsiatica of the Back which means after a fit I can't hardly walk. I have my wife who is my full time helper and two young children, we can't go through all the hassle again of our money getting stoped. Any hints and tips and help please.
Kind regards,
Roger and Jennifer Tatt

hi mate i was recently awarded dla high rate mobility and care was my 1st time applying. to get dla you it needs to effect you pretty much everyday for a fair amount of time during the day. for me that was easy to explin as im in constant pain but i can see how it could be tricky when one minuet you are fine and the next your are fitting! what happons to you when you fit,do you get any proir warning? if the fits are frewquent i would say you need someone to keep an eye all the time as if you have a fit on your own and you were to fall etc you could do yourself a lot of damage. need more info on how it effects your daily activties to give any real advice, if you do everything normal and painfree when not fitting its pretty tricky to explaine how it effects you daily and i could imagine that been very very frustaiting!0

where is the constant pain? in your back? your back could effect you very much like me mine is in my hip. so bending is a big no no for me i can bend yes i mean i have no choice too but to do so causes me sever discomfat i would imagine constant pain in the back would be the same, so bennding to sit down on a chair and getting up is painfull getting in and out of bed is painfull bending to put my jeans socks shoes on is painfull in and out the bath bending down to put things in the cooker etc, things like that you need to be telling them. anything you do that causes you sever discomfut put it down0

You Have It In One My Lower Back So Need Lots Of Help From Jen.0

you can ask Dial or CAB to help you with the forms.
Good luck.0 -
Might be a good idea to keep a very detailed diary for a month and send it with the forms to show exactly how you are affected and exactly what care you get and your mobility problems.Do you get side effects from your medication?,if so detail what they are and how they affect you as well.
Wouldnt be a bad idea to get help with the forms from CAB or welfare rights, but if thats not possible take your time filling them out, then photo copy all the main pages for reference either next time or at appeal, and return them registered post(just so they cant say they`ve not been returned)0 -

Not strictly true. If someone is only having infrequent fits (say 1 a month or less) you are probably gonna struggle to get DLA. Likewise if someone gets a warning or aura before a fit they will be expected to be able to place themselves in a postion of safety and again struggle to qualify. People who just have absences or clonic jerks are unlikely to qualify. DLA is much more likley to be awarded to people having regular seizures, serial fits or status fits. Also people who have regular episodes of vomiting or experience dangerous post epileptic behaviour are more likely to qualify. Incontinence during or following a fit is not something usually considered by DLA.0
