Pay less for car insurance with 2nd named driver

This may only apply to OAPs, but my dad accidentally found a way to reduce his car insurance (he's 78).
My brother recently came over from Australia to visit my parents for 6 weeks. He wanted to drive my dad's car while he was here, so Dad added him to his car insurance (with Zurich) and got a rebate for doing it!
Dad's insurance has just come up forits annual renewal, so he has now added my name as a second driver, and got approx 10% reduction in his quote.
I don't know why this happens, but assume it's because of Dad's age (?).
So for those of you being charged high age-related insurance, might be worth asking for a quote to add a member of your family next time your insurance is up for renewal.

I found this as well. Recently gave my car to my partner as I am soon to be getting a new one. He has no 'no claims' discount as he has never had insurance in his own name. I have 4 years. With me on the policy as a named driver it was about £150 cheaper than without me!0

When my husband added ME to the policy (still a learner!
) they discounted £50 off the policy!
We thought it was hilarious, but of course didn't complain!0 -
This worked for me as well. I added my mam as second driver (me being main driver) and it took the price down by about £200!0

Same thing happened when i added my partner onto my insurance (Diamond), i queried why it reduced the premium and was told that 'statistically single people have more accidents' even though i was driving the car 99% of the time by myself0

We have three cars between us in either one of our names and all have been reduced with the other as a named driver. Also Direct Line will let the named driver earn No Claims discount as well. I also managed to get an extra 5% off two of the policies for the household having multiple cars. Worth a go if you have an existing policy with them or for new customers.0
