Contact Motability and ask them as if you lease a car for 3 years, you will be on their fleet insurance policy.

Check their website there is an e'mail query system by which you can ask them about point etc:

    http://www.motability.co.uk/main.cfm?Type=IDX
  • If the points are now able to come off your licence you can get a replacement licence(cost my son £50)then your licence is clean,as said above you are on fleet insurance with motability

the points can only come off after 4 years. i will give them a ring i just dont want to go to a dealer choose a car and the get denied the insurance i would feel so silly.
  • I`m sure when my son got the car(he`s the named driver for his terminally ill stepson)the fact that he had 6 points showing on his licence wasnt an issue, although they had expired
If I were you i`d phone motability and ask

can anyone who has a mobility car tell me what is involed in the paper work for the insurance? ie if they just look at your licence and look for convitions or do you have to fill forms in where they ask you about convitions becuase in febuary i can pay to have my points removed. so my licence would technicly be clean but if i have to tell them about my past that might what stops them aceepting, do they actualy ask you what convitions you have or does the dealer just photo copy you licence?

The last 2 times i've had a motability car the dealer has simply photocopied my licence and that of my named driver. (& my licence shows 3 points for speeding, which is spent)

The only time that convictions become an issue is if a proposed driver has been disqualified

"If any driver has been disqualified from driving for more than 30 days within the last five years they will not be eligible to drive on a RSA (Royal sun Alliance) Motability policy.
The driver will only be eligible when five years has passed from the date of conviction shown on the driving licence. Any other convictions incurred within the five years will also be taken into account."

If you're unsure if your spent convictions may affect your application then ring motability on 0845 456 4566, i've always found them to be really helpful.

My husband had 6 points on his licence (2x speeding) when he got his last motability car, all the dealer did was photocopy his licence, no questions or forms to fill in.
