How do I open an electricity meter box?

Hi all,
I am renting a house and I want to take a meter reading but I am not sure how to open the box which extactly looks like the one at: http://www.meterboxes.co.uk/content/productpics/vlarge/diffembinsitumed.jpg.
The letting agent had a key which she used to take the readings on day when we moved in. Is there anywhere I can get that sort of key or is there any other way I can open it?
Best Regards,
SI

You can buy those keys from a hardware store, or B&Q or somewhere like that.
They cost pennies.:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -

Give the lock a squirt of WD40 or similar, I always open mine with long nose pliers, lost the key years ago.
Mine is same as the one in your link.;)0 -
As said, long nose pliers will do it.
They're cheap to buy from DIY stores.
Ring up your leccy company, they may send you one. We used to send them out at British Gas.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0 -
I might have a spare of this kicking abut- if I find it you can have it
they cost about 35p ffom screwfix-0 as I understand it B&Q stopped selling them ages ago
they are called triangle keys or meter keys they are very common. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Even Tesco sell them, on a clip strip hanging in one of the food aisles.0
