Egg Credit Card Positive Balance

Hi,

I bought something a week or so ago from Dixons, however I cancelled the order - and despite them telling me I wouldnt be charged and the item wouldnt be sent, they did charge me and it was sent.

However I have just realised that the egg bill is due on the 12th and I have the card set to pay the full amount every month. So now I am going to end up paying the full bill (which isnt a major problem), however I am then going to end up about £500 in credit on my egg card.

Is there any way I can transfer the money out of there and back into my current account, or withdraw the cash without having to pay any fees.

There may be other ways to get the money off the card (fee-free), but your first approach should be to ring them, explain what's happened, and ask for the money to be sent back to the current account your DD is set up on.

Be sure to check there will be no fee charged for this, and don't forget to take a name & extension number and record what was said including date/time of the call.
  • Also keep checking the credit card account to make sure your refund gets there promptly. Have the retailer said when to expect the refund?

  • One other question (presuming you won't be relying on Section 75 for any spending) how long would it take for you to spend £500 on that card?

  • So Egg will effectively owe you money? Write them a letter detailing the very reasonable 16.9% (variable) introductory rate you can offer them..... ;)

But yes, my first point of call would be to contact Egg directly and see if they can sort it out for you without you having to pay fees.

When I overpayed recently, I sent them a secure message asking them to refund the credit and they did it without any problems.

This of course ignores the fact that Egg (unusually) offer a credit card that does pay interest on positive balances. (Granted it's at a paltry 4% last time I looked...)

Actually their 4% is now looking rather generous in view of the recent Base Rate cuts ;)
