Well Virgin have told me that I need a BT landline to get their service so thats them out. I guess this probably means that I will need a BT landline for all other cable providers too :(

Lenny I have virgin BB & their phone and I don't have a BT line.

Thanks Skint, I know what you mean. Tig - Virgin dont offer it in my area :( Bloody scam. I may try and call BTs bluff. Gonna see if I can get a dialling tone first before I do anything.

Does anyone know it there are there any land line phone providers that do not require a BT land line to use. If not, are there any alternatives that I can consider?

As far as i know you need a BT line in place for everyone:confused:, if there is aline it might just need reconecting (and a charge to BT) but you can get line rental from services:confused:

Have a look on here Lenny

It depends whether the road was dug up during the build in the mid- 90s, I don't know if any cable companies are still doing a build programme, I doubt it. I worked for NYNEX (then Cable+ Wireless, then NTL, now Virgin) when the cabling took place as their PR manager (boy, did the press love us  ). When the merger took place and NYNEX became C+W, the build almost instantly stopped because they wanted to focus on national programmes rather than localised plans.
