Please help - Vodafone mobile broadband USB not detected by Dell Laptop

Hi there,
I got a payg Vodafone mobile broadband recently and was using it without any issues till last week.

My dell Inspiron 6000 had virus problems last week and so I had to recover it back to its original build. So, now I have installed Avast and Sygate on my laptop.

The problem is when I connect my Vodafone broadband USB to the laptop, the laptop is not detecting it. I only get the small icon (safely remove hardward) on my tray.

The drive is not showing up on My Computer also.

I tried connecting the USB to another laptop and it looks fine. So, I dont see any issues with the Vodafone USB.

I also tried connecting my pen drive and I could copy data from my pen drive. So, I think no issues with the USB ports on my laptop also.

I really dont know what to do now. As the Vodafone mobile broadband software is not installed on my laptop yet, when I connect the broadband USB it should automatically install the software. But, nothing pops up on my screen.

Could you please help me resolve this issue?

  • If you go into My Computer is anything detected in there? Like an additional drive or anything? Or is it not recognizing the stick whatsoever

Hi indierocker, thanks very much for your reply.
No, nothing is detected in My Computer for this USB. whereas, if I insert my pendrive, I find no issues.

First up, SYGATE no longer has updates (meaning its actually more unsafe than using windows inbuilt firewall)
Im unsure HOW you installed Avast and Sygate if you cant get on the net (?). But as and when you can , id suggest uninstalling sygate and installing PCTOOLS FIREWALL in its place ~

As for your actual problem. Its an odd one for sure!
Goto DEVICE MANAGER and uninstall the usb drives. Reboot and let it reinstall them (Is this XP or Vista?)
if that doesnt work then download MALWAREBYTES to check to see if the computers still infected (Which I suspect it is)
(On another computer if need be obviously, then burn to disc)

UPDATE and FULL scan then post the log here should it find anything

    Hi there,
I managed to go into Device Manager - The Vodafone USB software HUAWEI mass storage device is seen under DVD/CD-ROM drives.
I uninstalled this from DVD/CD-ROM drives and when I connect the USB again, I get messages on the tray that 'Found New hardware HUAWEI Mass storage device' but after 2 seconds, I get another message saying There was a problem installing your hardware - Your hardware may not connect properly'.
The HUAWEI Mass storage device is back again in the DVD/CD-ROM drive.

Please can you suggest what to do now?

Hi Yatin. Sorry ~ watchin a dvd :p
In Malwarebytes it says NO ACTION TAKEN
So please rescan and REMOVE the problems

    • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

Also, it was the USB drivers I wanted you to remove. not the ACTUAL vodaphone driver
