MBNA - How can the take a DD when balance is £0?

Just looking for some advice, I transferred my balance away from MBNA to a 0% card, and never cancelled my Direct Debit as I assumed that a £0 would mean that they wouldn't take anything,

BUT for some reason they have taken about £36 from my bank account - does anyone know why?

I have now cancelled my DD but how do I get my money back?

Thanks

Did you have money owing on your account but pay this off before the DD would have been normally collected?

Just ring them up and ask them to pay it back to your bank account. They will refund a credit balance without charge but ask them to confirm it first.

Because you've wrongly assumed that they wont, they go off your statement balance when deciding if a DD is due, if you've paid it off since your last statement then unless you tell them otherwise they will still collect the DD
  • asked 2-3 times a day! If you just transfered a large balance to another card then google "residual interest".

It'll prob be the interest charge from the date of statement to the date you paid the card off..
  • Same thing happened to me. I paid the balance off a month before the end of the 0% deal and they still took the direct debit as I forgot to cancel it.

I gave them a call and they refunded the balance I was in the black to my bank account which went in within 3 days.

Just call them - takes a couple of mins to get it back (provided there is no residual interest to come off...)

    Halifax CC (0% 10 months):
    £9,000; Zopa Loan = £7,586([STRIKE]36[/STRIKE] 16 payments to go) TOTAL = £16,586

  • Thank you all, will give them a call. Will it matter i don't have the card? Cut it up a LONG time ago....

Tighter I did do a search for MBNA credit cards first but gave up trying to find the correct answer after page 3 of irrelevant results!!
