Microsoft AntiSpyware

When I click on the Microsoft AntiSypware icon on my desktop it is stating that this version expired at the end of December 2005 and it tells me to get an updated version.
A link takes me to this page: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/default.mspx
I take it I should be downloading the Beta version(?) - I assume it is perfectly safe to do so.
Any advice please?

Yes, this is just the latest Beta, and it will expire in the middle of this year itself.
I am using it, and it should be fine if you have used the previous version.

Why is it, the present version will expire in July, so it says on mine? What happens after that, are you allowed to download again for free. Thanks.0 -

Yes it's free. In the Antivirus software go to :
Options -> settings
tick "notify me when updates or new versiond of MS Antispyware are available".
click save.
as the new releases come out it will ask if you want to install them.0 -

I believe that MS will be offering the final version for free, but as is common with their beta programs, the betas are set to expire. There is invariably a new version before the expiry though - I guess this is a way of making sure you have a recent version?
Hope that helps,
