We are in a similar position - Hubby was laid off just before Christmas and I work part-time. When we rang the Tax Credit people I was aked to tell them HUbby's earnings to date from his last payslip, when I told them they said 'oh he has already earnt more than the maximum threshold for this year so we can't pay you anything til April'. Not helpful at all!
Now we have just my wages to live on, we had some savings but to be honest what with Christmas and everything these will run out on Friday, I don't get paid til 31st and I really don't know what we're going to live on in the meantime!xxx Nikki xxx0 -
Doubt he is entitled they are a couple and she works 28 hours so is very likely to earn too much.
Doesn't matter how much she earns, she works too many hours end of, no JSA Income Based (this is what would be paid not Income Support)"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

I know i left it a bit vague because often posters dont give the whole story i didnt want to shut the door and make the OP at least not look and check if they were entitled, ive had that advice myself and it turned out to be wrong and i was entitled but someone had told me i wasnt.I am confused
So my DH isnt entitled to anything and we have to live off my £14k wage of which we wont get any tax credit support either until April unless they consider this years earnings.
I may as well face defeat now. We are screwed. We are paying a lot of debt off. We pay our way yet if we have to live on my earnings I wont be able to pay any of our debts off as food and heating come first.
Sorry loopy your debts are your responsibility not the tax payers 14k is more than me and my partner get and im genuinley disabled and cant work and she is at uni 18 months away from being a teacher. You may want to talk to someone about your debts the debt free wanabee board is the place to go now, its possible to talk to the lenders and reduce payments to token amounts per week. On the approx 12k we live off we can afford to pay £20 or so a week if we need to with good money management, you can do it dont give up yet. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
Yes, I agree with good money management it is possible to live off £14k although the debts may have to have only token payments .
If your husband is going to be doing half the childcare, is it possible for you to do extra hours at work until he gets something? Or a second job at evenings/weekends?(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Tom you are right, I thought about it after I had walked away from the PC and was going to come back and delete my post (I've edited it now). I am just feeling stressed out.
The debts are our responsibility and somehow we'll work it out, Im going to speak to CAB first.0
