Have a 12 year old who is using MSN Messenger more and more and I just want to get some sort of net nanny set up in advance.
Which is a good free one?

I don't know of a free one. Check out the site https://www.internetfilterreview.com which lists all of the best filtering systems. It's an American site but still good. It also gives helpful advice for parents. There are also systems called Accountability software that sends out all the sites you visit to an accountability partner (like you) so that if your 12-yr old visits dodgy sites you will know about it.
However the best way is for you to stay on top of things, to talk frankly and openly with your child about the dangers. Also my advice is NEVER let a child have a PC in there room so that they can surf unmonitored. Have you computer in a public room with the monitor facing out.
