Wireless Router, Internet loads slowly or not at all

having just bought a wireless router (Tenda/Plexus) I am trying to configure it to go wireless. The manual is useless, the website as bad and I am still having problems. Managed to get it online but only Google loads fast/normally. All the others or most take ages to load or more often than not do not load at all.
This happens on both laptops (one on Vista and the other on XP) so the problem seems to be with the router itself. I am running out of ideas now on how to resolve it. I read somewhere that it's probably the MTU that needs changing but I can't find on the router setup page a way to do so.
I contacted Toucan and they informed me that the ideal MTU should be 1400. Please help as I feel like throwing this piece of *** to the bin.
Anyone knows this router from ebuyer? If so, did you experience a similar problem?

I had exactly this problem. There is no way you can set the MTU on the router, you have to set it individually on each PC / Laptop. The problems start when you have a device that you are not able to set, wii for example.
There is a small utility called DrTCP (or something like that) that will set this up for you if you don't feel confident about digging around in the settings.0 -
It's not the model that springs to mind if I were to choose a router - I'd gone for something like: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/52244
However, hopefully this thread will help:

Thanks guys, are you happy with the router perfomance now?
Good price but a nightmare to set-up. I wonder how I will do it with my daughter's Wii. Terrible manual, lack of support, rubbish software/CD, the English on the manual isn't the very best. No way of changing the MTU on the router, what a nightmare...
Let's hope it runs well afterwards....Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -
As a basic wireless router its fine, in fact the range is very good, but I gave up as there was no way I could get the wii or an original Xbox to work on it.
I suggest you return it as its not compatible with your ISP (Talk Talk by any chance?)0 -
Is it the £15 plexus router that you bought?
As I got that one last week and found it a doddle to set up, with the only problem being me entering the wrong login username...Doh:rolleyes:
If it is that router, I'm happy to help if i can but I will say I'm no expert.

Hi Roadster,
My ISP is Toucan, I called them and they said that it was compatible with Toucan or it should be. They also gave me the router settings. It's the Plexus @ £14.99 from Ebuyer.
I think I am online now, it's the slow connection to the Internet that it is giving me headaches, only Google loads fast. Fantastic price but not for newbies like me. How do I tweak the MTU with Drtcp?
So no chance of getting the Wii online with it??Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -

Thanks Cookiemonster, I def need help. Are you happy with the router so far?
That's exactly the one, did you have any problems with the pages loading? What's your ISP? Mine is Toucan, I followed the instructions, but only Google loads well. From what I read it looks like a problem with the MTU, Toucan's one should be 1400. The slow Internet happens on both laptops (one on Vista and the other one on XP). Also, how easy is it to set the WPA?Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490
