Refused CC - please help

Hi there - I have been refused by Barclays first and now Virgin. I have about 4k to balance transfer across. My current is Santander and its coming to an end in March.

I went onto Equifax and signed up for their 30 day free trial (which I have now cancelled) and my file looks reasonably OK (its subjective) but my mortgage has not missed any payments as has my Santander card.
The only issue that I saw was I took out an orange phone contract 8 months ago and promptly sent it back within the cool off period and there is now a demand for £13 on my file.

I really need to get this 4k transferred to another lender - HSBC is out of the question (they hold my mortgage) but there is also a dormant CC there (with zero balance) - this is where i transferred from to Santander in the first place.

Any ideas of the best lenders to go to??

My income is not huge so I will be in this for the long term..........

I think before you contemplate another card you ought to woory about the £13. It may seem a trivial amount, but the consequences far outweigh the cost.

Your file is 'subjective' ? What do you mean exactly ? Near enough everything in life is subjective.

When you say 'demand' what exactly do you mean by that and have you tried to enquire as why you have the outstanding debt ?

Have you considered closing dormant cards ? Do you have many ?

Other lenders don't know the circumstances or the amount involved, do they? Your Equifax file indicates that you've missed a payment.

If I were you, I'd tackle this before you submit a further credit card application.
