convenycing exchange and completion

Hi I have just recieved a letter from my solicititor 'to make an appointment to discuss and sign the contract papers.' It goes on to say 'at this time i will obtain your instructions on proposed dates for exchange and completion.

' i enclose a completion statement showing the amount that will be required to complete the purchase of the above property.

My question is this is at the time of signing the contact is this when i pay total amount owed including the deposit and solictor or fees.

    Hi saff,
    Your solicitor will need the balance in time for exchange of contracts, usually they also require their fees to be paid before completion [see their terms of business which will have been sent to you with their estimate of fees & costs].
    So s/he may not require the money when you see them to sign the contract, it will depend on the likely timescale before exchange takes place.
