Just recieved a letter, am gutted

I have two Natwest accounts. I generally use my savings as a current account as I've only recently got a current account with them therefore I have most of money in the savings.

However on the 22nd of decenmber I needed to use my current account as I was buying off Virgin Vie and they would only take the card type thats linked to my current. It was for £5 and there was about £30 in my Current account so I paid.

About 4 days later I'd forgotten about buying from there and moved all my money into my savings (via online banking) so I could see the grand total so to speak.

A the next day I checked my online banking and the current was showing -£5. I immediately moved money into it and have since forgotten about it.

Until today I've just received a letter saying they will take £28 on the 30th of January. I'm gutted as £28 is a lot of money to me at the moment because of the over time ban at work. :(

Is there anything I can do? I know it was my own stupid fault but I paid up as soon as I realised. Many thanks for any help given

Thank you. Anything else I could do if they say no?
  • Post back on this thread and you should get some advice, I think you would need to follow Martin's letter templates and put a claim in.

Odds are they will waive the charge if it is a first time offence :)

I haven't rang yet. I presume I'll have to ring my branch? I'm not sure how to word it apart from say it was a mistake?

I have to agree with JaRocks, from what you have written there is no bank error and therefore whether it is a first offence or otherwise the bank should decline it on that basis alone.

You could read Martin;s guide to reclaiming though ;)
I have not worked for NatWest Bank since February 2009

So should I even try ringing or not? :(
  • It's worth a try, try and appeal to their nice side and see if they will waive it.
