You've got the bills to your hand! We don't! Look at the date on your bills. Look at the date of your readings. Look at the dates of the readings on your bills. Are they same? Are they different? It would be easier spending 30 seconds looking at the information you have yourself than asking for random guesses from strangers.

    Please do.

I have taken a look at the bill.

I have been honest if you read the posts... we are new to all this bill paying lark as we are first time renters, and are just looking for some advice on our situation. I am not asking anyone to do anything for me, other than to offer advice to a new home couple.

We dont mind paying the bill and are lucky enough to be able to pay it, but would like to make sure its correct.

I have to say that despite giving you all these figures they British Gas seem to offer no clear explanation on how your bill is worked out.

Im considering perhaps moving to a monthly bill, which may help us in cutting costs. Is there any disadvantage to paying monthly over our current quarterly cycle?

Isnt the reading on the 28th Jan bit odd? Its huge compared to the rest?

That's because it has 'clocked over' - it's added 100,000 because you entered a lower reading than the previous reading. Fortunately as you have not been charged £12,500 instead of £500 you have not been billed for this!

(Though you should probably contact your supplier to check their account for you has not retained this clocking over.)

    Blimey!

    :)

    Dont remember making that mistake.

Is there anyway of finding out readings you have submitted (like a history) on the BG website other than the screenshot i placed here?

No idea, don't have a current account with them. Is there a list of bills - look at the pdfs of the bills.

Maybe you should look more closely at your latest bill. Are you sure it's only £573 - perhaps the pound sign is not a pound sign but is a '1' and '2' printed closely together and your latest bill is for 12573 pounds? :)

Look at my post #7 again.

You have only used 7,369kWh(£800 to £900) over 8 months in an all electric bungalow - which is absolutely excellent!

    The £573 is just a 'catch-up' bill.

    P.S.
I don't agree with you about Plasma TV's using roughly the same power as LCDs. There have been masses of info on this - do a Google.

WHICH is usually pretty reliable and state:

Power consumption

Based on our test results, a 42-inch plasma TV typically uses 277 watts when switched on, compared to an 180-watt average for the 40-46-inch LCD TV category. That's 50% less energy than plasmas.
However, some manufacturers point out that the power use of a plasma TV is directly dependent on picture brightness, whereas an LCD TV picture requires a constant source of illumination. The theory goes that a plasma TV should use less power over time.
But in reality, plasma TVs require significantly more power to achieve the same brightness level as an LCD TV, putting something of a 42-inch widescreen hole in the theory.

that is quite odd about the apparent reading i entered and I got both the night and day figures incorrect. I can understand making the mistake on the one, but to make both is a little odd.

I have to say though that i am shocked to find how complicated British Gas make their bills. Surely they could make them a little more user friendly!?

Id like to think of myself as educated enough to understand these things, but feel bad for those who may not have the confidence in their understanding of these.
