Overcharged for units?????
I had a knock at the door last night and a guy with a clip board knew my name.
He told me we had been highlighted as we have been overcharged on our gas/electricity.
He did say which company he was with (not an energy company) but I can't remember who.
He said this problem had been in the news and even Martin knew about it.
Now I've no idea what he was talking about and I watch a lot of news and visit this website frequently.
Anybody got a clue what this guy is on about please?!

rule 1 - assume that anybody selling on your doorstep is not in your interest0

Thanks oldfella but he claims he wasn't selling and wanted to give us some money back. I never buy anything from doorstep sellers. If I want something I find them not the other way around!
He's supposed to be coming back in April - we'll have been with Atlantic a year by then.0 -
put your hand out and ask for the money - it will suddenly get more complicated0
-
He is a salesman who is lying through his teeth. But since you reject this scenario feel free to sign over your first-born in April.0

Thanks for your answers people.
I was only asking a question as I had never heard of the thing he was talking about.
I don't think there was any need for sarcasm in the replies..
I haven't signed anything and never do for doorstep sellers.
I am also of the opinion that if something seems too good to be true it usually is.0 -
aeuerby - I never buy from the door. I always tell the power company people that I check prices online and switch that way.
For your situation, I'd have said "Okay, I'd like to see a letter from your head office explaining everything in writing so that I've got time to think it over."
My bet would be that he'd have made some excuse and left. I don't know what he's on about either, as I've never heard of it.
I think this is a job for MSE Martin himself - if he's reading this board; Martin, have you heard of anything like this?0 -
Or, if you haven't the time/inclination to engage these loathesome creatures in conversation, just say not interested and shut the door. If he has his foot in it at the time even better...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if you now find that you are being switched over to a new energy supplier. These people seem to think that if you answer the door, that gives them permission switch you. Keep an eye on things carefully.0

Sounds to me like a cleverly worded sales pitch. I've had similar things said when cold callers appear from energy companies. Told them to bug off0

By the way, to be accurate, nine times out of ten (or, at least, five times out of ten) the door-steppers are right -- many people are paying over the odds for their fuels. But why give the salesman a commission when you can pocket the bonus yourself?
Check the costs on a comparison site and switch (if sensible) through a cashback site.0
