dog urinating in her own bed?

Hi,
I wondered if anyone had any ideas about my 7 month old Lhasa?
Basically, I used to crate her at night or if we went out for a couple of hours in the day. This was great at first and she could go all night without weeing. Over time though there was the odd 'accident' and the blanket would be wet. This progressed to regular wettings in the cage.
One day, the blanket was in the washer so there was nothing in the crate. My husband put the dog in the laundry room where the crate was and shut the door for half an hour as she was getting under people's feet (we were having a new floor fitted in the kitchen). I went in to her and there was a puddle in the cage. At this point, I decided to get rid of the cage and replace it with her plastic basket which she had never wet. Basically the behaviour seems to have transferred to the basket.
I cannot understand why she would wet her bed, when there is a perfectly good floor!!!! She rarely has an accident at other times apart from when she is left overnight and for spells during the day.
Can anyone suggest how I can stop the wetting of her bed? I thought that tonight i might just put a blanket on the floor? By the way, she doesn't really get told off or anything for weeing in her bed. As soon as I get up or come in I just let her straight out, so she is never there when I discover it!!
Any suggestions would be most welcome!

I think take her to your vet to get her checked. A dog soiling its own bed must be distressing for her. as that's the one place they wouldn't go from choice.0

what do you wash the bedding with? If there is still a smell of urine (perceptible to her not you) the dog will continue to wee there. Use a biological washing powder/liquid and vinegar will also help to break down any nasty niffs.
I also give all my dog bedding a quick squirt with stain and odour destroyer spray. I am currently using the PAH one for maximum money saving. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
I have'nt got a dog so don't kmow much about these things but don't animals do these type of things to mark their territories ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Not in their own beds, there must be something wrong. Dogs will go to extraordinary lengths not to mess on their beds.
I am wondering if that is a mythmy new pup seems to delight in pooing everywhere and lying in it. The last 2 mornings I have come down to find him with a crispy back and side and have discovered poo caked to him (wheres the vomit smiley?)...

Your new pup could well be too young to be expected to go all night without being let out - esp if still on 3 or more meals a day. I always get up in the night to mine - usually takes them until 7/8 months before you are sure they can go all night without needing out - usually when down to two meals a day.
OP - get your pup checked at the vets to make sure theres no underlying infection before treating it as a behavioral problem0 -
Is the bed itself still smelling of wee (to the dog I mean?)0

Hi again. Thanks for all the prompt replies.
I am not sure there is anything physically wrong, although if I can't sort this out soon I will take her to the vet for a check up. The reason I think it seems more behavioural is that she is not locked in now she is in the basket not cage. She could easily step out and wee on the floor. Also that day she wet in the cage when there was no blanket in there, she wasn't locked in. She must have walked in there to wee especially  . She doesn't seem to have any problems in the day - can go for long spells before needing to go out. It seems to be that she thinks this is the right place to do it? Also I've been using that vet bedding, so she may not be able to feel it is wet as it just soaks through.
I do wash the bedding in bio powder, but maybe the basket itself may smell of urine to the dog? I clean with an antibacterial wipe or two (or three!), but maybe thats not enough? T
I'll get some odour destroyer later today and try that.
Any more suggestions?0 -
it could well be a physical problem - some dogs do leak whilst lying down relaxed/asleep- please go for a vet check as the first line of action here.0

Hello OP just a few questions as your original post is a bit unclear and then I will explain why I ask them.
1) Is she weeing in her sleep?
2) Are you ensuring that she goes out regularly?
3) If she does go out, do you ensure that she actually does her business?
My dog has wee'd in her sleep since she is a puppy and in different areas of the house, sometimes it was not a lot but othertimes the carpet was soaked and this had us puzzled, as she is walked regularly especially before bed, didn't drink excessively, etc.
But in the end we realised she is basically lazy and doesn't like to go out in the wet/dark/cold, etc. You can let her out and a minute or two later she is asking to be back in or she just looks outside and backs up. Sometimes you really need to make her go out and demand that she has a wee. Where she will look at you with 'big puppy dog sad eyes' to try and get out of it but if we don't give in and stand there looking stern she gives in and almost does a wee on command. And normally ends up peeing for England!
Was just wondering if this could be the same for you dog. I think you might also have to remember that she is still only a puppy and could still be hit or miss.0
