Where do I stand?!

I don’t know if I have posted this in the right forum but hopefully someone can help.

My wife has received a final demand from Lewis Debt Recovery for an outstanding amount on a Next Directory bill. However, we just don’t have the enough money at this moment to pay the full balance stated on the letter, so I rang the company to set up a payment plan by standing order, however, they said that I and they don’t have authorisation to set up this plan even though the account is a joint account. They did say if I so wished, I could make a payment to the account today.

My question is, how can I have authorisation to make a payment from said account but not set up a payment plan??

Help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks

    Hi there,

The best way to deal with Debt Collection Agencies (DCA) is to communicate by writing. Pen them a letter from your wife asking them to accept £x per month. It is highly unlikely that they would refuse. Pay them what you can afford each month until the account is clear.

For the best advice, I would head over to the Debt Free Wannabee board as they have very knowledgable people on there who can assist you with handling the DCA.

    Good luck :)
